The Central City Action Plan aims to improve the Central City environment, grow its economic activity and attract people to enjoy, visit and live.
The Central City Action Plan [PDF, 6.5 MB] was prepared in 2018 as a three-year plan to increase the momentum of Central City regeneration and reconnect city residents with what the Central City has to offer.
An update to the plan was completed in 2020, adding new activities and aligning with wider responses to COVID19.
Fundamentally the plan’s actions are still aimed at attracting people and building Central City identity and pride.
The delivery of the plan is a collaboration across the city’s public agencies to support the private sector and stimulate new investment.
An evaluation of the plan's impact [PDF, 1010 KB] was completed in September 2020. This concluded that the city environment and levels of visitation have greatly improved, while noting these will need continual effort, alongside an ongoing focus on the delivery of the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena, Metro Sports and Convention Centre.
The Central City Action Plan aligns with a shared set of long-term goals for our Central City. Progress towards these goals is being tracked on our Central City Progress(external link) page.
