Apply for a permit to trade or perform in public places in our city.


Before you begin please read the relevant bylaws, policies, rules, general conditions and codes of conduct.


Please note that there is a file size limit on this form. The total size of all attachments must not exceed 30MB.

Street performance (buskers)

Street performers must comply with the Code of conduct for street performersNo permit is required in some areas.





Include hours, days, weeks and months


 
Street performers are not covered by the Council’s public liability insurance. Performers are encouraged to hold their own public liability insurance.




Mobile food stall (includes coffee sellers)

Anyone selling food from a mobile food stall must meet Food Act 2004 requirements.

Mobile food stalls are not permitted in the central city, Akaroa township main business area, or Lyttelton township main business area. 

Trading is not permitted for longer than 60 minutes in any one place.

Permits will not be issued on state highways or arterial routes (as defined in the District Plan) or on roads that exceed 50km/hour.

Mobile or travelling shop
A mobile or travelling shop sells goods, wares or merchandise. It does not include the sale of food or drink. 

Mobile or travelling shops are not permitted in the central city, Akaroa township main business area, or Lyttelton township main business area.

Temporary retail stall
A temporary retail stall must be removed at the end of trading each day. A temporary retail stall can be operated for a maximum of six (6) months in any 12 month period.

Temporary retail stalls are not covered by the Council’s public liability insurance. Stall operators are encouraged to hold their own public liability insurance.


Hawker

Trading from a fixed location is not permitted. Hawking is not permitted in the central city, Akaroa township main business area, or Lyttelton main business area.


Hawkers are not covered by the Council’s public liability insurance and are encouraged to hold their own public liability insurance.


Declaration
I agree to comply with all the conditions in the Bylaw, the Policy, general conditions, any relevant code of conduct, and on the Permit while trading or performing in a public place.

I agree that the information collected will be used to ensure the effective processing of my application. It may be distributed to other Christchurch City Council departments, external agencies such as the police or NZTA, and for public notification as required.
