Canterbury Multi-Use Arena Project

What

We are about to begin decontamination works within the Canterbury Multi-Use Arena (CMUA) site.

Why

We are doing these works to remove known contaminants from the site before the main construction work on the CMUA begins. All of the decontamination works will follow a site-specific and safe methodology while being observed by our specialist engineers and archaeologists.

Where

Works will be happening across the CMUA site that's bounded by Hereford Street, Barbadoes Street, Tuam Street and Madras Street.

When

Work will start on 29 March 2021 and is expected to be completed by early June 2021 (weather and on-site condition dependent). Work will be undertaken between Monday and Friday, 7am to 6pm.

Contact

The contractor is Protranz Earthmoving Ltd. Phone 03 359 3030. Please advise us if you have any specific queries.

  • We’ll be focusing on the following areas:
    • removing and disposing of coal tar from Cashel Street, within the closed section of the road
    • removing and disposing of ACM pipes from Cashel and Lichfield streets, within the closed sections of the roads
    • removing and disposing of contaminated hotspots across the site
  • Contractors will enter and exit the site from 248-250 Hereford Street.
  • The number of truck movements during the works will depend on the findings of hotspot testing and the amount of contaminants that will require removal.
