Shalamar Drive - improve flood storage

What

We’re improving Cashmere Valley Drain, constructing a forebay basin and improving access to the valley floor.

Why

The works will improve flood storage capacity in the valley to reduce flood risk and help improve water quality.

Where

Shalamar Drive and Christchurch Adventure Park access road, Cashmere.

When

15 February 2021 to late July 2021, 8am to 5pm (weather/site condition dependent).

Details

  • This work is part of the Cashmere Worsleys flood storage project which will reduce flood risk on the Ōpāwaho/Heathcote River.
  • This stage of the works will include vertical realignment the upper part of Cashmere Valley Drain, construction of a forebay to help reduce sediment load, installation of culverts and pathways to improve access to the valley, raising of access roads and landscape planting of wetland grasses, shrubs and trees to improve the ecological values of the area.
