I am standing as a KOA (Keep our Assets Canterbury) candidate for mayor because we want to win the mayoralty with good policies for Christchurch people.
We want a people-centred city rather than a corporate-centred city.
We also want to see a return to local democracy through open and honest negotiations with central government.
Our policies include: Stopping asset sales; Free and frequent public transport; The living wage ($19.80) as the minimum for all council work; Building 1000 additional council homes for rent and rent-to-buy over 3 years; Ending the corporate stranglehold on the CBD rebuild with stiff rate increases on undeveloped land; Fighting to make all Canterbury rivers swimmable.

I am a current Spreydon/Heathcote Community Board member, chair of the Opawaho-Heathcote River Network, and past-president of National Council of Women (Christchurch Branch). I have a PhD in Speech Therapy, and have worked as computer programmer, business analyst, and waste minimisation consultant.
I have lived in the local community for 30 years and our children attended Cashmere schools. A practical environmentalist, I've organised successful river clean-ups and waste reduction programmes in schools, hospitals and factories. I'm keen to continue using my skills and energy on the Board to help in the huge post-quake task.
I am opposed to selling Council assets like the port, airport, or electricity network. I want to see good design and business activity in rebuilt shopping centres, realistic solutions to congestion and housing shortages, along with a healthy environment for all, with special concern for children, elderly and people with disabilities.

As an experienced Project Manager, Licensed Builder and volunteer Youth Mentor I have a depth of real life skills and knowledge that enable me to advocate strongly and effectively for this community.
I work collaboratively and transparently and will bring more opportunities for residents to connect and thrive; further ensuring the services we all rely on don't get neglected and remain readily available and accessible.
I'm leading a campaign to keep medical services at Princess Margaret Hospital, to ensure all residents within our Southern suburbs can access lower cost healthcare.
As an active member of Otakaro Orchard's Board I support locally grown produce and greater education on food quality. I know great things can be delivered by 'bottom up' community initiatives when rightly empowered.

As a wheelchair user I appreciate barriers faced by people with mobility challenges whether through physical impairment or age instability. Our city, our community, has an obligation to assure safe, accessible, healthy, affordable housing that continues to meet our needs as we age.
Now is the time to design for a truly internationally recognised accessible city, from home to places of business, employment, leisure and care; through paving and public transport; attracting commercial benefits from disabled sporting, business and tourism.
I support open, inclusive decision making. I am a strong believer in environmental issues and sustainability, and want clean water, free from nutrient loading and commercialisation. I am treasurer on the board of a community housing organisation and volunteer for another.
I challenge boundaries: I was the first adaptive rower to be selected in the NZ rowing squad in 2009, and I'm a keen off-road hand-cycler.

24 years ago I left South Brighton for Waikuku Beach and sadly watched the steady decline, underinvestment, over promises, under delivery in this stunning environment. Those living in the coast do it for a reason, lifestyle, its values, the environment and a sense of community. The earthquakes should have accelerated the work programme for this area but I believe you've been patronised with grandiose plans without looking after the basic maintenance requirements of roads, recreation faculties and drainage. You deserve stronger representation; passion is not enough. It's time to stop the rhetoric and time for action. I am strong, forthright and have experience in coastal communities as a previous Waimakariri Deputy Mayor and regional councillor. If elected I will return to this piece of paradise and will vigorously demand that from Southshore to Brooklands you are treated with a much better level of service and the community's views are respected

I am the current Burwood Pegasus Community Board Chairperson during a time where extraordinary circumstance has called for extraordinary leadership. I have been fortunate to lead a united board overcoming numerous challenges, making complex decisions and overall helping to make the ward a better place to live.
My passion is advocating for the recovery and enhancement of the greater New Brighton and Coastal communities and this focus earned me an earthquake award for running a welfare centre after the quakes.
My previous training and experience in geology, ministry, accounting and business leadership equip me to serve on the boards of Rebuild Christchurch, Eastern Vision and Avondale School.
I want to ensure the positive gains made this term continue to enhance a productive working relationship with the community, Council, Development Christchurch and Regenerate Christchurch as we continue to consult on challenges such as the Residential Red Zone and Coastal regeneration.

For 35 years I have enjoyed living and raising a family in our amazing coastal community. While working in residential property management and development I have brought positive change in our Ward through various volunteer roles. These include the New Brighton Pier and Foreshore Society, North Beach Residents Association and Canterbury Youth Services (Easter Camp, Spencer Park).
As Chairperson of a coastal Trust I have played a leadership role in the beach promenade proposal and am currently working with Council and development entities. This follows a successful partnership with Council on the North Beach War Memorial/Community Centre refurbishment. My strengths in building relationships and engaging stakeholders, combined with my community knowledge, will help bring progress to our Ward.

Previously three terms as City Councillor Christchurch, Chairman of Policy and Finance committee. Director of several public companies in both countries, including chairman of Australian tourist development company and an exchange-traded investment company and Deputy Chairman of Christchurch International Airport. Writer of many articles. Two years as television interviewer CHTV3.
Bad habits: writing letters to the editor, too many double faults at Elmwood Tennis. Continuing belief since my Council days in closer involvement with ratepayers, together with restraint on rate rises, and now I have the time I would work to achieve these ends.

We submitted on the resource consent by the Canterbury Aggregate Group. This application has the potential to contaminate Christchurch's groundwater and is relevant to everyone in the Christchurch area.

I am a 38 year old former truck driver and team leader/supervisor. My years of experience in the civil industry gave me a unique perspective into the current flaws of the infrastructure rebuild. I am the current Deputy Chair of the Spreydon-Heathcote Community Board. Over my last term I assisted residents in the formation of the Hoon Hay Community Association. We gathered the community together to retain the Council's former Children's Voluntary Library as the recently opened Hoon Hay Community Centre. I believe diversity and participation are essential for local democracy, particularly youth involvement. Therefore, I encouraged and supported local youth to form the Spreydon-Heathcote Youth Community Board, the first of its kind in Christchurch.

One of my interests is Addington where I live, a historic suburb which should not be divided by changes in Ward boundaries.
I am also interested in social justice and am concerned about the problems of homelessness and poverty. People begging on the streets of Addington and sometimes at Barrington Mall make these problems real and visible. This level of injustice is unacceptable.
I have a law degree and have tutored law papers briefly at Massey. I have had a variety of part time jobs while mainly being a mother and a member of the Catholic worker group in Addington for about 12 years. Prior to this I worked for the Housing Corporation (Residential Tenancies Section), Forest Service and Lands and Survey Department.
Spreydon and Addington communities need a strong voice.

As Chair of Strategy and Finance, I have helped guide the Council through a difficult time. Our complex financial situation has been clarified and stabilised. We have settled the largest insurance claim in NZ history and have created new legislation and entities to support locally driven urban regeneration. There are still many challenges ahead: trying to keep a lid on and reduce rates increases, finishing the repairs to our roads and footpaths, restoring our community infrastructure and facilities, and devolving more decision making to the local level. There is also an amazing opportunity to restore the residential redzone in an ecologically sustainable manner and make it a long-term asset for the city. I have degrees in teaching and construction. I have 30 years experience managing multi-million dollar construction projects and many years experience as a senior contracts manager. Through these experiences I have acquired excellent technical, problem solving and people management skills.

Since moving to Christchurch in 2002, I have been active within the Waimairi community. I am a Justice of the Peace, an active member of the Rotary Club, Vice-President of the Christchurch MultiCultural Council and a Neighbourly lead.
An electrical engineer by trade, I work as an international sales manager for a local hi-tech export company. I have been in customer-service roles throughout my career and I am confident in my managerial capabilities and ability to resolve conflicts. I have an appreciation of different perspectives and opinions and I welcome feedback.
My experiences have taught me the value of community engagement, diversity and prudent money management.
I enjoy working in teams with a common purpose.
I love our city and I am passionate about Christchurch's future.

I have lived in Ilam for over 10 years, and have a background in retail and hospitality. My vision for Waimairi is an attractive and pleasant local and natural environment. We are fortunate here to have some of the best schools in the city, as well as parks and recreation facilities close by. I would like to maintain and further develop our reputation for this.
Issues that are important to me are an attractive local environment, in keeping with our garden city image. Reliable and well maintained infrastructure including roads, footpaths, parks and other facilities are also important. My values include social justice, local democracy, and a sense of community.
