Finish Near Hilltop Tavern
Distance 7 km
Time 2 hours one way

Description

This is a shared use track for both bikers and walkers.

From Okuti Valley Reserve it’s a steady uphill climb following a 4WD track through farmland to a saddle. The saddle offers amazing view towards Kaitorete Spit and further west towards Mt Sinclair and Mt Fitzgerald on the Te Ara Pātaka Summit Walkway.

The track then takes a much gentler descent towards its end near the Hilltop Tavern.

Numerous gates have to be opened and closed along the route, please close all gates behind you.

The track is well marked, but open and exposed for its entire length, so it’s advisable to save your trip for a day with good weather and good visibility.

The track is closed for lambing mid-July to mid-November each year.
