Reduce, reuse, recycle
Approximately 760 kgs of rubbish is generated by every person living in Christchurch each year. More than 50 per cent of this waste could have been recycled or composted.
Carbon emissions from the breakdown of paper, cardboard and organic matter in landfill amounts to emissions generated from 33,000 cars each year.
You can help make our Garden City clean and green by reducing, reusing and recycling your waste.
Find out how you can reduce waste:
- at home - by shopping wisely, composting, recycling and using washable nappies
- at work - in the office and on a building site
- by composting your kitchen and garden waste
- by starting a worm farm at work, home or at school.
