Kerbside collection

The Council provides weekly and fortnightly kerbside rubbish, recycling and organics collections for households in Christchurch, Lyttelton, Akaroa and parts of Wairewa.

Households have been provided with three wheelie bins for these collections.

Ensure you use your three wheelie bins correctly to help protect our environment.

Make sure your bins are collected:

  • Put your bins out before 6am on the collection day or the night before
  • Put your bins on the kerbside, with the handle facing your house
  • Allow half a metre between adjacent bins and obstructions
  • Don't overfill your bins - the lid must be properly closed for collection
  • Extra items placed next to or on top of the bin will not be collected
  • Bins weighing more than 70kgs may not be emptied

To keep the bins clean, you can:
  • Place a couple of sheets of newspaper in the bottom of the bin.
  • Hire a contractor to come to your home to wash the bin. You can find these in the Target Sustainability's recycling directory under Miscellaneous materials.

Collection days

As part of the Council's plan to reduce waste, all bins have been allocated to a household with a sticker on the side of the bin containing the property's address it belongs to and the week scheduled for collection.

You can download a calendar for your allocated collection week:

Enter your address details below to find your kerbside collection day for each of the three bins.
