Setting of rates

Each year, as part of its Annual Plan or Long Term Council Community Plan, Council agrees on the activities that it will carry for Christchurch and how much this is expected to cost. Based on this plan Council determines the amount of rates that needs to be collected, and the rates department of the Council then works out how these rates will be assessed on each property.

The Council has set rates totalling $256 million for the 2009-10 year.
