Online timetable

We endeavour to make updates to our online timetable for class times and instructors as they come to hand.  If a change occurs on the day of the class, it may not always be possible for this to be updated, e.g. instructor changes due to illness.  If you wish to confirm who is taking a particular class on the day, please phone 941-6888.

Pioneer Basketball

Pioneer Recreation and Sports Centre are excited to let you know that Canterbury Basketball are now running their After School Hoops Academy at Pioneer.

This is an 8 week programme delivered by pro coaches, you may even rub shoulders with Canterbury Basketball players.  This means registrations are no longer be taken at Pioneer Recreation and Sports Centre or via the Christchurch City Council Call Centre. Please contact Canterbury Basketball Hoops Academy for all bookings.

Pool Availability

As we now have 60% less water space than prior to the earthquake, there are now allocated times for pool-based activities to ensure fairness to all of our user groups. This means there will now be times when lane swimming will be unavailable in some of our pools, or reduced lane availability.

Pioneer Recreation & Sport Centre lane swimming

Lane swimming will be available during all our opening hours, however there are times when there will be limited availability: Monday to Friday 3pm - 5.30pm (only 2 lanes available). Graham Condon Recreation & Sport Centre lane swimming

Lane swimming will be available during all our opening hours, however there are times when there will be limited availability. To view permanent lane bookings for Graham Condon 25 metre pool please click here (please note this does not include casual or one off bookings).

From Monday 31st March, leisure space in the 25m Lane pool (normally lane 8), will be unavailable between 3.30pm - 6pm Monday to Thursday, during the school term.

Leisure space in the 25m pool will continue to be available on Fridays between 3.30-6pm, Saturday and Sunday.

Jellie Park lane swimming

  • Monday 7.30am - 3.30pm & 8pm - 9.30pm
  • Tuesday, Friday 7.30am - 4pm
  • Wednesday 5.30am - 3.30pm (2 lanes available 5.30am - 7.30am)
  • Thursday 7.30am - 3.30pm
  • Saturday 9am - 3pm
  • Sunday 7am - 8pm  

Recreation Pool

  • Monday to Friday 5.30am - 9.30pm (limited to 1 or 2 lanes between 3.30pm - 7pm)
  • Saturday 7am - 8.30am (4 lanes), 8.30am - 1pm (1 - 2 lanes) and 1pm - 8pm (5-6 lanes)
  • Sunday 7am - 8pm

Aquajogging will be available during the following times:

Graham Condon Recreation & Sport Centre lane swimming & aquajogging

We endeavour to have at least 3 lanes available for public use at all times in our 25 metre 8-lane ramped pool.

Generally more than 3 lanes (the best times to swim) are available:

  • Monday to Friday before 9.30am, between 2.30pm - 6pm, and after 7.30pm
  • Saturday afternoons
  • All day Sunday and Public Holidays

For aquajoggers please note the lane pool has a depth of 1.8m (northern end) graduating to 1.2m (southern end) making aquajogging most suitable at the northern end of this pool.

Cricket World Cup 2015 Volunteer Opportunities

New Zealand is set to co-host the 2015 Cricket World Cup. This is a major sporting event, attracting over a billion TV viewers and a million attendees. 49 matches will be taking place over 44 days.

Christchurch has the honour of hosting the opening game as well as two other matches in February. We are also the only city in New Zealand hosting some of the tournament's warm up games.

To help us deliver a world class event, we are looking for a number of volunteers to work in key roles throughout the tournament.

We are looking for the following requirements:

  • At least 17 years old at time of application;
  • Agree to Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy;
  • Undertake and successfully complete security background check(s);
  • Be available to volunteer throughout the Tournament dates as required – must be available for match days in your Host City;
  • Attend a volunteer interview;
  • Complete scheduled training requirements;
  • Attend uniform and accreditation collection.
The final round of volunteer interviews are scheduled to take place in either September or October this year.  To secure a spot, apply now via the volunteer portal.  All role decsriptions are available online.  For any enquiries, please email .
